Description The teacher begins the lesson by leading a class discussion on the benefits of keeping a daily fitness journal. The teacher should say, "Journalizing helps writing skills, understanding daily objectives and short- and long-term goal setting. It also assists with keeping records toward achievement of those goals."

The teacher explains that through this activity, students develop the habit of journalizing their daily fitness and exercise activities. Students should record daily objectives, games, exercises or activities that they complete.

Finally, the teacher explains that an added benefit of journalizing is that it helps esteem issues by showing students' improvement in specific areas.

Students are instructed to begin keeping track of concrete factual items such as the number of push-ups completed or how much weight was used in the bench press.

The teacher leads a discussion on keeping track of thoughts through inner reflection.

The students' records might include such thoughts as:
-- "I did much better at participating in Ultimate Frisbee today."
--"I completed seven throws and was in position to catch the disc throughout the game time; and in doing so, I made myself available to my teammates when they needed me."
--"I have seen great improvement in the past two weeks and have worked outside of school with my dad on catching the disc while running."

The teacher explains that many different questions or items can be kept in the students' journals, and that their journals will be collected at predetermined intervals and graded for completeness.
